Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) for State Schools' Relief (SSR)
How do I apply for SSR assistance?
SSR only responds to requests from principals, assistant principals and welfare coordinators. Parents or carers who are struggling financially to provide for their child's government education should make an appointment with the school principal or assistant principal/welfare coordinator to discuss their issues.
How much of my donation will go towards administration costs?
100% of the money we receive in donations goes towards the provision of clothing and footwear. Since 1930, the Victorian Government has supported SSR by way of administration funding. This means that not one cent of your donation goes towards supporting the organisation's staffing and administration costs. Your donation will be used solely to purchase new and necessary goods for disadvantaged children in Victoria. Donations over $2 are tax deductible under the Australian Income Tax Act.
Who is eligible for SSR assistance?
Any student who is attending a Victorian Government School is eligible for SSR support. Applications will only be supported when the school believes that there is a serious financial difficulty and an application to SSR is warranted.
What is the process to apply?
The principal, assistant principal or welfare coordinator will make an application to SSR. The application is signed off by the principal.
What support do you provide?
SSR provide quality footwear and non-branded clothing from our stock. Other branded uniform items are subsidised. Parents and carers will be asked to make a contribution to each branded item of clothing.
How long does it take to receive the items?
Once SSR receive the application, it will usually be processed and dispatched within 24-48 hours.
Where do I pick the uniform up from?
Stock from SSR will be delivered to the school at no cost. Authorised purchases of branded items will be picked up from the school uniform supplier. Parents will have to pay for the difference between the SSR subsidy and the cost of the item at collection. Please refer to the purchase order from the school for information regarding the location of the school uniform supplier.
If I have more than one child, can I apply for support for all of my children?
Yes, applications are made on a needs basis and how schools determine their support for students requiring assistance. Many schools use quality second hand uniforms and pay-as-you-go arrangements. SSR is often used as an alternative option if second hand uniforms and pay-as-you-go are not viable options.
Can you still assist if the school has a specific uniform ie. With a logo?
Yes, these items are mostly subsidised by SSR.
If I have used SSR previously, can I apply again?
Yes, schools make applications on a needs basis.
